I really struggled with this book in the beginning. I found the writing to be clumsy and bloated with metaphors more for the sake of using metaphors rather than lending to the story. The writer seemed to be trying too hard. But after about 1/3 into the book, the writer seemed to find her ground, and the book flew. The characters and story were compelling and I held their hearts and pain, and still am a day after I have finished. Unfortunately, the last paragraph in the book resorted to metaphor overload and flourishes but all is forgiven as this ultimately turned into a great read.
Everyone should read this book. It made me cry it is so beautiful. Albert Cohen tells us of the life of his mother who passed away. Buy boxes of tissue
