As a huge fan of Jane Austen, I had hoped to enjoy this more than I did. In general, Austen was a better writer than she is a character. The pace of the book is sporadic and the red herrings obvious. One of the things I enjoy most about Austen is her detachment from the great affairs of her age and I find that most imitators err in trying to enhance that connection.
