It's hard for me to rate this book. The subject is certainly interesting and it's well written, but somehow I found myself deeply disliking Paul and not much liking the Count of Lys either. I just could not really get into the story.

These stories are obviously dated, what with most taking place in the 20s-40s. Don't let that stop you from reading them though, they are great! Quick reads that are gritty and dark and tell great stories about the seedier side of town. Look for copies of these at your thrift book stores. I got mine at Half Price Books!
