It surprised me. I almost expected to dislike this one, and actually approached it with slightly biased views. But I have got to say, the more I read of it the more I found myself falling for it. Granted it's not faultless; for example sometimes I found details of certain events, such as the glowing skin and the thunderous baseball game, to be a tad rushed; I thought it required more of a reaction from the main character, so to speak. Also I found the vampires to be ever so slightly 'Mary-Sue'ish, the slight changes to the vampire myth only serving to make those characters more perfect than necessary. But despite those little annoyances, I couldn't help but fall under Twilights' hypnotic spell. I found it to be a pretty well written and charming novel, and it certainly hooked me til the end. I think in the context of the novel it's successful in what it tries to be, which is essentially a teen romance novel. With vampires. And to be honest, you could probably do a lot worse in this field. To sum up: once you battle past the bleetings of countless emo fangirls fantasising about Edward Cullen, there's actually a decent novel to be found here. I might even pick up the sequel.
