I'm not particularly a fan of the crime drama and the multiplicity of coincidences, pesonal tragedies and accidents was a bit much to take, but Atkinson's writing is gripping and there are enough well-rounded and colourful characters to keep you intrigued to the end. The disparate plot strands seem very disjointed at first, but they are cleverly intertwined, with suspense and intrigue building to a strong climax and a satisfying wry conclusion.
