Several very good stories here, especially Kelly Link's bizarre tale that mostly takes place in a hotel overrun by simultaneous conventions of dentists and superheroes. Scott Westerfeld, M.T. Anderson and John Green had strong contributions as well. There are several more pretty good, entertaining, competently written stories, with cute (though sometimes twee, and eventually repetitive) retellings of what it's like to be "geektastic." Beyond that, a few of these stories are on the dull side, though, more like a vignette remembered by a writer who was once a geek themselves, rather than a compelling story. Most themed story anthologies are uneven simply because of the varying skill levels of writers, as well as different levels of commitment and care to the tale in question. Geektastic is more uneven than most, and it seemed to me maybe the editors realized this and made an effort to alternate stronger stories with weaker ones. I can only speculate some of the contributors might be old personal friends of the editors, because a handful of these stories really had no business being included here.
