I almost gave this one ONE star. That's how much I disliked this book. The writing was forced, the main character was not likable, and it moved very slowly in parts. The story was supposed to be written in journal/letter form, but the author made no attempt to stylize the writing in any way-- oftentimes, I forgot I was supposed to be reading a journal. Also, the author is man and the book is written from the point of view of a woman; the reader can tell. These are just some of the things that bothered me about the novel.

It took me a little while to get into this book....very slow at the beginning. I liked parts of the book, but always prefer a happier ending....guess I'm more of a happily ever after sort of girl.

Really enjoyed this short little story about the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel. Thought Bruno's parents should have prepared Bruno a little better when they moved to "Out-With". After discussing the movie with my sister (I have not seen it), wish they would have stayed true to the book. Knew something sad would happen at the end, but very shocked when finished. Even cried a bit!
