I read this a long time ago & decided to reread it following the RV series, the story still stood up well although the setting was dated. One thing that really surprised me was how many things Clarke predicted had come to pass, the book was originally published in 1954 yet he has oral contraception & paternity testing in the "future" setting The story is simple , mankins has come to the time for out nect evolution & the overlords have come to ensure it all goes smoothly - however something about them disturbs our psyche.
