The book is not a bad read if someone looking for a different take on love story. There two primary reason for two stars. The first is that the book pacing does drag enough in spots that the book feels longer than it needs to be. The second reason is that the non-linear story telling is hit and miss at times. I felt the non-linear time was refreshing and confusing in spots. I found myself checking the ages and dates for the main character several times to follow the current story.

In Fables Vol. 1 (Legends in Exile) we are introduced to the Fabletown underground community in New York City. Now in Volume 2 we travel to the Fabletown Farm in upstate New York to experience the life of the non-human Fables in their rural settlement. Willingham cleverly chooses the title of 'Animal Farm' to intimate the revolutionary fervor that Snow White and Rose Red will encounter upon their visit to the Farm. As 'Legends in Exile' is crafted as a 'hardboiled crime' whodunit, 'Animal Farm' could be considered a political thriller, within the fantastical reality of the Fables community.
