I quite enjoyed this book. I did find it dragged at times, especially when he first arrived at the island: "...and then he made this, and then he made that, and then he made something else" kind of thing! I also think the book could have ended sooner but on the whole, I enjoyed it. From what I have heard of the book, I was expecting Man Friday to appear a lot sooner than he did but I wasn't too bothered that he didn't. I was pleased that Crusoe returned and gave the prisoners some animals and resources.

I learned that my patience for Great Man history that never gets beyond the "name-date-event" convention is very very limited. This book tested me to the point that, eventually, I just left it in Cambodia half-finished.
