My personal favorite of the BDB books. John Matthew and Xhex's love story has been building for a while and it's culmination is fairly epic. As a straight man who has read all of the BDB books, Xhex is the only female that seems real to me. She has a past, she's flawed, she's angry, she's rough around the edges... but she's lovable. Ward has managed to break down Xhex's walls while not losing the core of the character. She's a badass at the beginning, she's a badass at the end. I was also a fan of Tohr and John's relationship progress. Very moving and heartfelt and it makes me really look forward to Tohr's book. All in all, amazing entry into the series.
