This is one of my most favorite books. With a twisting plot and a twisted protagonist, Nabokov gives us an unreliable narrator, an unrelenting view of "modern-day" mid-1900's America, a victimized, yet manipulative young girl and a sense of humor about it all. When reading it the first time, I found myself being alternately repulsed and then giggling, but always entertained and trying to decipher the layers of metaphors and allusions that Nabokov piles on top of the narrative. Definatly worth the time and brain power to read!
