3.5 I don't know if it was the way it was translated (I read the Spanish version) or the lack of Poirot or Mrs. Marple, but I didn't enjoyed this one as much I thought I was going to. Sure, Agatha Christie manages to pull you into the story with a plot full of mystery and packed with well crafted characters, but I actually guessed the outcome of this story, which is odd when I'm reading any of Christie's work, usually I never know what to expect. I was also a bit confused through most of it and I blame the way it was narrated for it. Overall it wasn't bad, but I didn't exactly loved it.

Have read every book at least 5 times. Have seen every episode of the TV show at least ten. When I was little I wanted to marry Almanzo and live on a farm.

The boys and I are finally done the series!! I love that they wanted to listen to the story and then compare it to the movies. Now what series to start with them next????

I can't say I absolutely LOVED this--there were a few things that I wasn't quite sure about. For instance, I did not much like the illustrations by Dave McKean, and I would have rather them not been there at all (I much prefer Chris Riddell's illustrations in the UK edition for children, which is the version I ended up purchasing). And I felt like the society of Jacks could have done with a little more...well, a little more, I guess. There wasn't really enough info about them and their prophecy included to make their goals seem real. They didn't really seem all that sinister, just...slightly stupid? I would have liked to know a little more about Silas and his Honour Guard as well. However, despite those things, I really, really liked this book a lot. I loved Bod and his relationships with Silas and his ghost parents and Liza and Scarlett, and even with THE SLEER. I loved the sort of bittersweet ending. I thought that for the most part, this was beautifully written, and it was quickly added to my "to buy" list.

This book somehow had a flavor of the Series of Unfortunate Events. I was a little annoyed at the beginning with the tone and style, but the action made up for it later and I enjoyed it more once things started happening all over the place. Overall it was a fun romp.
