an interesting historical novel looking at the life of one of the female conquistadoras. written by isabele allende, it makes no effort to smooth over the brutalities of colonialism, though neither does it focus on them. all in all, a very good read.

Somewhat implausible in places, but an interesting fantasy nevertheless.
