This is my favourite Nabokov novel, though I may be biased, as the book makes a lot of academic in-jokes that may only be funny if you've experienced something of literary academia. Nonetheless, it's so clever, and so smart, that I just don't know what to say about it. It's a fictionalized work of criticism that says twenty different interesting things about the relationship between literature and criticism (which is, incidentally, not so far from the relationship between culture and fan-culture) that make me happy on my insides. Nabokov is such a genius with prose, too, that rereading his novels always reveals something new to me, just because the language is so intricate and careful.
